Community Impact – May: MS Society

During the month of May, Ignite fundraised for the Nation Multiple Sclerosis Society. Although raising money for the MS Society was a key part of our goal for the month of May, it was not our only goal. Increasing awareness and education about Multiple Sclerosis was another important component. Our preparation for May started in March with the creation of our shirt for the walk. We then focused on informing our team about what MS is and why we must support this initiative. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS affects nearly 1 million people in America alone. These people live in our community, work with us, and deserve our support. Our very own Vice President of Operations, Melissa Zimmerman, battles Multiple Sclerosis. Our team was educated about the signs, symptoms, and most starkly, the cost of fighting MS. This education opened the eyes and heart of our team members. We then set on our mission to raise as much money as we could. The Ignite Industrial Professionals team raised $1,720 for the MS Society.  On the 20th of May, we participated in the Columbus MS Awareness Walk. Our team and their families joined together to support our community members battling MS every day. The team sported their orange awareness ribbons and our slogan from the event “Walk to Ignite the fight against Multiple Sclerosis”. We united on the chilly, misty morning and walked through the Bexley neighborhood. Ignite and more than 1,200 others joined in the fight against MS. The event raised $168,724 in total. This money will go toward helping support individuals battling MS across our community and many others. Keep an eye out for our next community impact initiative.
